MBR SCRAP MY CARMANCHESTER

A LITTLE PREPARATION. A SMOOTHER COLLECTION.

What You Need
for Collection.

From the paperwork to the parking space, here is what to have ready before your car is collected.

BEFORE WE ARRIVE

Your collection checklist

Let us know early if anything is missing or your vehicle is difficult to access. The team can confirm what is needed for your collection.

  1. Vehicle log book, if available

Have your V5C ready. If you cannot find it, tell the team before booking; do not assume you need to buy a replacement just for collection.

  2. Photo ID and proof of address

For scrap collections, the dealer must verify your name and address. Check with the team which documents to bring, including whether separate address evidence is needed.

    GOV.UK: identity checks
  3. Keys, if you have them

Gather the main key, any spare keys and the locking wheel nut key. Tell us in advance if a key is missing or the vehicle cannot be unlocked.

  4. A car clear of personal belongings

Check the glovebox, boot and under the seats. Remove valuables, child seats, parking permits and toll tags, and clear personal data from the car’s connected systems.

  5. Accurate condition and access details

Tell us whether it starts, rolls and steers, and about damage, flat tyres or missing parts. Mention gates, tight driveways, height restrictions and where the car is parked.

  6. Collection and payment agreed

Confirm the address, contact number, collection time and payment arrangements with the team. Same-day availability depends on your location and the collection schedule.

THE PAPERWORK THAT MATTERS

A few things to keep in mind.

01

Keeping a private number plate?

Arrange retention with DVLA first. You need your V778 retention document and the new V5C before selling or scrapping the vehicle.

GOV.UK: keep your private number
02

Tell DVLA about the handover

You are responsible for notifying DVLA when you sell or scrap your car. Keep the handover details and confirmation. Without a V5C, follow DVLA’s postal instructions.

GOV.UK: notify DVLA
03

Keep the right records

Keep your sale receipt. If a car is completely scrapped, the authorised treatment facility issues a Certificate of Destruction within seven days. This is different from a sale receipt.
